About Harness Bars

A harness bar gives the shoulder straps of a racing harness a fixed point behind the seat. The Brey Krause bars that make up most of this page bolt in using the car's existing holes and mounting points and need no modification to the car. Each listing names the exact car and body style it fits.

Porsche. Bars and guide bars for the 911 coupe and Targa from 1974 to 1998, the 996/997 coupe (with a separate bar for Cabriolet and Bose-equipped cars), the 991/992 coupe, and the 924, 944 and 968. The 987 and 981 Cayman get truss-style mounts, and there is a passenger mount bar for the GT3 Cup and an adapter kit for the 996 GT2 and GT3. For the 986 and 987 Boxster, Brey Krause roll bar extensions add 1-3/8 in. of headroom, attach to the factory roll bar and seat-belt mounts, and clear both the soft top and the hard top.

BMW. Bars for the E46 coupe (M3 included), E90 sedan, E92 coupe, F80 M3 and F30 sedan, and F87 M2 coupe. Brey Krause says that once a BMW bar is installed it comes out and goes back in about 15 minutes.

Tube or truss. Tube bars such as the R-1032 for the 991/992 and the R-1202 for the E46 are Type 304 stainless steel with a black wrinkle powder coat, and leave enough seat travel for tall drivers. The truss-style R-1045 for the 987 Cayman is aluminum and stainless, lighter than a tubular steel bar, and tested to the NHTSA and SAE J385 seat-belt anchorage requirements; its B-pillar brackets stay in the car so the truss comes out in minutes. The R-1036 kit converts an R-1030 996 coupe bar to the truss-style R-1035.

The bar takes the shoulder straps. Lap and sub belts need their own anchors, which are on the Brey Krause harness mounts page.
